Cherry and Martin is pleased to present a new body of wall-mounted HD monitor works by Brian Bress. Bress’s wall-mounted HD monitors show a soundless, digital loop in which isolated actors (often the artist himself) perform in various forms of dress. The faces, torsos, and arms of these characters are obscured by painted masks and suits. They face frontal and use the HD monitor’s screen as a picture plane through which they cut with reciprocating saws to reveal their own presence.

Brian Bress will participate in the 2016 Moving Image Biennial at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, curated by Caroline Bourgeois, Andrea Bellini and Massimiliano Gioni. His upcoming touring solo museum exhibition, “Brian Bress: Make Your Own Friends,” opened at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (Salt Lake City, UT, 2015) and will travel to the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (Denver, CO, February 2016). Bress has recently had solo exhibitions and projects at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, CA); Museo d'arte contemporanea (MACRO) (Rome, Italy); Santa Barbara Museum of Art (Santa Barbara, CA); and New Museum (New York, NY). Brian Bress lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
