Maya Zack, Hannan Abu Hussein, Raida Adon and Lital Dotan. A video program curated by Yael Katz Ben Shalom / Artneuland (Berlin/ Tel Aviv)

On Wednesday, September 11 at 9 pm we present a selection of videos by Israeli and Palestinian female artists, which was curated by Yael Katz Ben Shalom, the director of Artneuland (Berlin/ Tel Aviv). Artneuland is an artistic platform of the three monotheistic cultures - Judaism, Islam, Christianity. The trialogical model provokes the discours and motivates different views to be exposed.

The Mother Economy (2007, 19:45 min.) of Maya Zack is an economy of sacrifice. Strict rules of order and seperation wrap the apartment like a routine ritual, trying to fix the status of objects in relation to the subject. The woman, the subject, is scarifying herself through the repeated movements that are growing and blowing to an obsession threatening to trap the spectator in it.

In her unique works of art like in A small country with 2 big moustaches (2004, 9 min.) Hannan Abu Hussein examines mainly the imagery of woman`s body. The presentation of body images in Abu Hussein`s works reveals contradictory interpretations and paradoxes which reflect and generate the conflicting feelings women have towards their bodies where they, women, struggle between their feelings and their survival in society which imposes rules and restrictions on how women are to look and act.

In her video Fasatine (2007, 10 min.) Raida Adon staged eight black dresses amidst the fifty-five left over original houses of Lifta, which is one of the few villages on the outskirts of Jerusalem, not entirely destroyed after 1948.

In Embracement (2007, 6:30 min.), a woman, seated on a pedestal with a wreath of thorns in her lap, is holding a bandage-ball. Slowly, as if she were a participant in a common ritual, she is wrapping the bandages around her body, tightening the wreath of thorns to her body.
