Alfred Hitchcock's legendary guest appearances in his own films form the point of departure for the project created in 2005 by the Belgian artist Johan Grimonprez (*1962). At the same time, this homage to the »Master of Suspense« also pays tribute to the imagery of the Surrealist painter René Magritte. Just as with Grimonprez' famous media collage »Dial History« (1997), »Looking for Alfred« is a game with different levels of reality, with simulations and optical illusions. The film installation is accompanied by a complex of hand drawings and collages that reflect how the project evolved through an intricate network of ideas.
