William Forsythe
Human Writes
05 Oct - 02 Nov 2008
In collaboration with The Forsythe Company and Dance 2008
William Forsythe (*1949), the world's most important and influential choreograph of his generation, has freed ballet from its conventional context. He has opened up hitherto neglected dimensions to the performing body by focussing on the deformed, coincidental, disparate and uncontrolled. Parallel to his stage pieces Forsythe has repeatedly created works that he consciously devised for space other than the theatre. Following the premiere presentation of his installations at the Pinakothek der Moderne two years ago, Festival Dance 2008 marks a second occasion to continue this collaboration. Centrepiece here is the performance installation »Human Writes«, a physical discourse concerning the reinstatement and preservation of human rights, in which the failure of these efforts is inscribed.
