ARCHIVITIONISM (archivism-activism-exhibitionism)
10 – 14 March 2015

Participants: Liviu Acasandrei, Roxana Ajder, Iolanda Anastasiei, Maria Balea, Bogdan Bara, Andreea Ciobîcă, Donika Çina, George Crîngașu, Serena Ferrario, Corina Oprea, Matei Păcuraru, Flaviu Rogojan.

The first invited artist is Dan Mihălțianu (born in 1954 in Bucharest, based in Bucharest, Berlin and Bergen), co-founder of subREAL (1990), Editor / Associate Editor of Arta Magazine Bucharest (1990 - 1993 and 2011 – present), Professor at Bergen Academy of Art and Design (2001-2007), and Guest Professor at Université du Québec à Montréal (2008-2009). His renowned artistic career, pedagogical activity and experience in art publishing will merge together in a workshop with an emphasis on building relations rather than obtaining an outcome. Photography, texts, and exhibition making are all instruments that can bring ideas together without the pressure of producing objects, but with the purpose of challenging the „borders” of visual arts.

The frame proposed for this workshop by Dan Mihălțianu starts from the process of research and the practice of archiving, using documents, texts, images, video, sound, objects, etc. ”Following the long series of «isms» in art, archivitionism is a term encompassing archivism, activism and exhibitionism, as strategies, patterns and platforms for using the archival process as artistic medium. It focuses on practice, methods and production means in relation to the social and moral implication of art today. It also acknowledges the wide spread of artistic practices related to collecting, classifying and archiving, as one of the most significant trends in contemporary art worldwide. Archiving in the art context could be approached through various perspectives, from physical and clinical, to aesthetic and philosophical, from historical and social, to political, and further, to legal and penal implications.” (Dan Mihălțianu)

The subscription to this workshop is free of charge and open to all art students and young artists.
