Plan B is pleased to announce the opening of the group show Domino Dancing, curated by Ciprian Mureșan.
This exhibition explores the relationship between the visible and the invisible, negotiated through several shared questions featured in the displayed works. These works trace a rhizomatic network of the artists' diverse themes and interests, brought together by Ciprian Mureșan, and change the emphasis from the object to its surrounding aura, and to the relationship between the works and the process-like nature of the artistic act. Domino Dancing forms organically, as a domino game in which the slightest touch provokes the answer.
Tom Chamberlain works with gestures specific to painting, but not limited to this medium, forming an invisible painting by means of wash-drawings on canvas, laid repetitively as overlapping circles. Ciprian Mureșan then takes an x-ray of this painting with the purpose of unearthing the “essence” of form, the result a mere black square which resists attempts to go beyond the visible. The process continues and develops, as Esra Oezen scans glass plates until she reaches a perfect immaterial black, consisting of transparencies that have turned opaque. Lucía Simón then uses graphite black as a diary of the time that she has allotted to art, measuring the amount of black created by the pencil on paper, the number of used pencils, and the amount of time used. Cătalin Ilie’s improbable yet successful task of expanding an A4 sheet of paper through successive hammer blows. These sheets which are “improved” or “freed” of their original and standard size are then distributed to the exhibiting artists to be drawn on.
The game ends when all the leaves have fallen.
