Platform China Contemporary Art Institute is pleased to present Shen Yang’s photography exhibition - Her Voice: A Ka A Ka in early September in the 798 project.

Like most of the feminists artists, Shen Yang also creates her works from self-experience, imagination and intuition. By creating a manner of language which imbued with extreme feelings of the individual survival and unique female characteristic, she solaces herself with these images to vercome the female weakness and the fear to the surrondings.

Through this series of A Ka A Ka, Shen Yang considered private space as a breakthrough point to express her real understanding of life: bathroom, kitchen, living room, fitness gym, sunshine room and etc. She kills time at these places, where everything is under control in her heart. The real world becomes somehow unreal and the normal life becomes somehow abnormal. No one knows what touched her nerves, making her so crazy and positively bursting to present them. The city we live is such huge with continual change of the vehicle and crowd, she never feels safe before sheltering in her own small room.

The way of perception, which is individualisms and internalization distinguished with the male photographers who are very socialized, is to shout her voice symbolically in the process of experimenting of the physical and spiritual hurt made by the living environment, tangle, stimulation, infection and etc. We can feel the artist’s deep feeling and the monologue-like private tendency through her works.
