Settle the Life

This is the first art project in 2009 after Platform China Project Space moved to Caochangdi from 798 Art District. The young artist Huang Liang, who from northeast China, will show his solo project called Settle the Life, which is about his feelings to the diseases and life. The exhibition contains two themes - Helpless of Fear and Phanerosis.
Huang Liang once suffered from the great psychological pressure of death. Sevaral years ago when he just stepped into the art college, he was misdiagnosed as advanced cancer. The shadow of death surrounded him nearly in two years. Helpless of Fear series represents the inner feelings of those inpatient friends he was in hospital with. When they have to face the advanced cancer, there were fears and sympathy within, as well as semi-avoidance to the harm that cannot be escaped from. Furtherly it’s a great harm to the heart. The Phanerosis series wants to talk about that the X-ray or other medical inspection doesn’t make the patients clearer but more confused, just like a unfolded tekstboek, without removing the pain but force the patients to suffer the cancer repeatedly.
Nowadays, though Huang Liang has shaken off the shackles of death to be a health person and a pillar of the society, but in this fast developing society which fills with lots of opportunities, most of time he was fearful and revolted. Advances on technology and socialty enable everyone to be a distributors of information; Technology is an amplifier at the same time, it transmits all kinds of informations without hesitation to people quickly, also making them confused. The artist hope what he saw, smelled and thought could be unified with the concept that what the intimate feeling is. Art is a transfer manner about self-concern, the friction between individual life and the whole socialty makes the artist to think constantly: Does these informations really complete our lives? How people perceived the end of life in the past? What is the interference to modern people's sudden death?
Life is beautiful, so the most important thing is to cherish life. To experience pain is to feel happiness. -- Huang Liang
