MIRCEA CANTOR
MARCEL DUCHAMP PRIZE 2011
3 October 2012 - 7 January 2013

Using a pair of scissors, a small boy cuts the stream of water flowing from a kitchen tap, there is a sudden blackout. With the image, the water starts to flow once more only to be cut again. This film loop Vertical Attempt (2009), and the work Fishing Flies, made Mircea Cantor stand out at the 11th Marcel Duchamp Prize. With the support of the association for the international promotion of French art (ADIAF), he is now showing at the Centre Pompidou. His work, of great delicacy, sharp, made on a sensitive subject, simultaneously radical and subtle, establishes Cantor as a major figure in contemporary art.
