TRANSFORMATIONS
100 graduate projects in the creation industries
29 November - 6 December 2014

An exhibition of 100 graduate projects in the creation industries, representative of the excellence of French schools.

At a time when France is mobilising its "live forces" for an industrial recovery, "TransFormations" puts the spotlight on the work produced by colleges in the creation industry fields (design, architecture, graphic arts and fashion) as regards their most daring proposals.

This event has no equivalent in the recent history of school promotion events. Each year, it involves bringing together the various disciplines contributing to the well-reasoned renewal and improvement of consumer goods, services and equipment in the living environment (both domestic- and urban-scale), together with different modes of expression for enhancing them (packaging and graphics). While these disciplines belong to specific cultural, technical and economic fields, there is no doubt that the questions they raise and the responses they provide – particularly as regards the changes at work in our developed societies – are so common to all of them that we can see connections and even porosities between them. These creative disciplines accompany these transformations and anticipate the world of tomorrow. Bringing them together is a way of shining a light on the main forces behind creative thinking.

For a week, the Centre Pompidou will be acting as an interdisciplinary showcase for the excellence of French creation, and as a venue for meetings and discussions on the socio-economic and cultural issues of these disciplines in their practice and teaching.

To open the proceedings, on the afternoon of Saturday 29 November, some surprise guests will be inaugurating the exhibition in the presence of the winning students.

Based on a selection of work by 100 graduates and postgraduates (Masters level) from the current year, the week-long exhibition will take the form of a continuous projection of the digital catalogue of the works selected, and a public forum where the winning students take turns to present their work. Each day at the end of the afternoon, meetings/debates will be proposed on themes connected with the subjects of degrees or the main issues in teaching these disciplines, together with professionals, teachers and designers.

Aimed at the general public as well as professionals, this exhibition provides different approaches, with something for everyone. The curious can explore an infinite variety of creative questions and answers with regard to their environment and daily preoccupations, while specialists can linger over the projections, take the time to look at graduate dissertations, meet the winning students and take part in the debates.
