UN ART PAUVRE
8 June - 29 August 2016

Curator : Mnam/Cci, Frédéric Paul, Bernard Blistène

With this completely new multidisciplinary event, the Centre Pompidou examines the practices through which the idea of "the poor "in art crystallised during the Sixties in the visual arts (with Arte Povera), music, architecture, theatre and experimental film. In 1967, various manifestos announced the birth of Arte Povera. In the visual arts, the cinema and the theatre, artistic practices echoed each other, characterised by simple gestures and representation through plain materials. The materials used by artists were often natural or recovered, and they focused on traces, reliefs and the most basic manifestations of life. Onstage, this produced a theatre without sets, lighting, music, make-up or costumes. Meanwhile music experimented with the rarefaction of sound.
