22 Jun - 25 Sep 2007

Born in New York City and raised in Hollywood, Terry Richardson began photographing his environment while attending Hollywood High School and playing in a punk rock band. At P.S.1, Richardson presents photographs of the Los Angeles punk scene made in the early 1980s. His grainy color and black-and-white images are steeped in the in-your-face attitude and music of the time.

Terry Richardson's photographs have appeared in numerous publications such as Vogue, I-D, Dazed and Confused, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, W, and Purple. Well known for his portraits, he has photographed celebrities such as Faye Dunaway, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Ford, Sharon Stone, Jay Z, Chloe Sevigny, and others. Richardson has exhibited his work internationally, at galleries such as Deitch Projects, NY; The Shine Gallery, London; and Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris.
