A participatory project with Katherine Low Settlement featuring work by Linda Hackett Munson

As part of the Katherine Low Settlements 90th birthday celebrations Pump House Gallery presents Faisal Abdu’Allah: A Participatory Project featuring Faisal Abdu’Allah and current and past members of the Battersea charity. The works produced as part of this project are displayed alongside a series of portrait photographs by Linda Hackett consisting of unknown subjects identified only by their surroundings.

This Exhibition presents work that explores the relationship between people and place and the personal and the collective. By exploring the history of Katherine Low Settlement through the memories of current and past members the project seeks to reveal new narratives within the diverse social make-up of the area.

Through a series of workshops at the Katherine Low Settlement centre, Abdu’Allah works with the members to open up dialogue about the past experiences of both the area and the centre, giving voice to otherwise silent histories. Touching on themes of identity, place, perception and memory Abdu’Allah utilises thinking, making and dissemination to encourage participants to embrace uncertainty and think critically about their place in society.

This exhibition is a touring exhibition produced by Pump House Gallery in collaboration with the Katherine Low Settlement. We are grateful to the American Museum in Bath for the loan of Linda Hackett’s work.
