PUMP HOUSE OPEN
28 November - 22 December 2013

The Pump House Gallery is delighted to hold its first Open exhibition. Curated by six young artists from Action Space London Studio in collaboration with Hannah Conroy, the exhibition will showcase local artists work and will offer an insight into an unconventional approach to curating an Open exhibition.

As a result of an open call, the exhibition will be showing the selected works on the subject of ‘Tradition’ and the passing down of culture. The selection panel is lead by curator Hannah Conroy, who will carefully oversee the selection of works alongside six young artists from Action Space’s London Studio. With the involvement of young curators and exploring different approached to curating, this Open Call, look to rethink hierarchies of how artworks are selected and display in contemporary exhibitions.

Hannah Conroy is an UK based curator from the Royal College of Art who has been working for this exhibition with the Action Space in Wandsworth to provide contemporary art experience and knowledge. Action Space supports the development of artists with learning disabilities in a professional studio environment and creates innovative projects for people with learning disabilities to engage with the visual arts. The selection panel is conformed by Emily Battersby, Kieron Hanlon, Michael Sporik, Geroge Blankson, Wayne McGregor and Selina Assan-Sackey, young curators from Action Space’s London Studio with special thanks to Patricia Finnegan who has work closely with them and with Hannah Conroy.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of free family workshops on every Sunday (11am to 3pm) throughout the exhibition. These workshops are open to all and varied of themes.
