SOCIAL STATES: BAPTIST COELHO AND NADIA KAABI-LINKE
15 March - 20 May, 2012

An exhibition of new works developed during the artists’ residencies at Delfina Foundation in autumn 2011. The artists are responding to the environment of the gallery, exploring it’s social and physical landscapes, and the juxtaposition of social and personal contexts.

Baptist Coelho lives and works in Mumbai, India. He merges personal approaches to research with local cultural languages, geographies and histories. He is exploring traces of conflict in people and places around Battersea Park, focusing particularly on the first and second World Wars.

Nadia Kaabi-Linke makes work related to specific places and their histories. She has been working with female survivors of domestic violence to create an installation that intertwines the social and psychological. Born in Tunisia, Kaabi-Linke lives and works in Berlin.

This project is a partnership between Creative India Foundation, Delfina Foundation and the Pump House Gallery.

The exhibition has been realised with assistance from curator George Unsworth.

The exhibition is supported by Arts Council England and Sula Wines.
