"Dew-point" exhibition presents works of three artists of one generation, which choosing different media (photography, video and painting) in an interesting and individual way build their own visions of reality. Their works are hard to classify. They are, as much as the authors, independent and mature.
Dorota Buczkowska (born in 1971, lives and works in Arles and Warsaw) in her latest works is observing simple physical processes, weather phenomena and meteorological reports where she finds truly poetic stories. Pictures and animations taken from weather maps as well as "Dew-point" (2005) video presentation in Raster undertake the rationality of cognition process and lay stress on imagination and intuition. As in her previous works, she has been chasing physiological and emotional conditions of human body activity ("Aorta", "Circulation", "Birthday", 2004).
Agnieszka Kalinowska (born in 1971, lives and works in Warsaw) famous for her sculpture and video installations. A frequent motive of her works is tension and uncomfortable feeling, both physical and psychical. As in "I'm here on business" (2004) video installation, where the artist and her art curator are talking about exhibition details both tied with a rope. Agnieszka's earlier three-dimensional works and objects are also specially sensitive to material ("elastic" sculptures made of elastic bands, installations with streamers and confetti). In her latest works presented in Raster the workshop resourcefulness is combined with the artist's characteristic motives: threat, uncertainty and violence.
Monika Wiechowska (born in 1976, lives and works in Amsterdam) is dealing with photography. Her works in a particular way are filled with opposite emotions. From one hand they are full of vitality and from another they are threatening with vanitas aura. In photography series of dead roe-deer (2002) the animals seem to be still alive and "Somnambule" works (2004) present deserted places and buildings enliven by picturesque light and exuberant plants. In this context many Monika's self-portraits have a particular importance. Full of affirmation, feminine corporality and sexuality. We present the work entitled "Ja" ("I", 2002) at the exhibition in Raster. A monumental manifesto of vitality.
"Dew-point" exhibition has been specially prepared for Raster by Agnieszka Czarnecka, an establisher of Czarna Gallery, which has not its permanent address yet. At the same time Raster is organising a trip exhibition in Rental Gallery in Los Angeles and the Raster office will be moved there as well. Czarna Gallery and Raster are going to exhibit together at Viennafair (6 - 9 April, www.viennafair.at)
You are the most welcome!
