The Galerie Reinhard Hauff is particularly pleased to present its first solo show with Tim Berresheim.
Tim Berresheim (born 1975) works as an artist, musician, label and project space operator. In his work, which is produced by means of sophisticated digital image processing, Berresheim explores the effects of digital technology on visual arts, culture, living and working conditions, perception and ways of knowing.
The extent to which the digital image worlds are increasingly changing what we perceive as Reality, has reached a level where it seems that if you are not online, you don’t exist. The internet (in)forms our aesthetic taste, influences our social environment and regional, national and international politics. Nevertheless, there is a strict separation between what we consider Virtual and „not“ Virtual Reality, as if the former had only peripherally something to do with the latter.
Juggernaut is an English metaphorical concept. It signifies an unstoppable force, which destroys everything in its path. The origin of this word goes back to the enormous, heavyweight festival procession carriages, which were used during certain Hindu processions to honour the god Jagannatha. Once on the roll, these carriages can hardly be brought to a halt.
Cataract has a double meaning and stands, on the one hand, for a waterfall, and on the other, for the condition cataracts, which progressively leads to blindness.
Cataract Juggernaut doesn’t mean a powerful waterfall, even when some of the images of Berresheim’s large format laser chrome compositions in this show could suggest such a resemblance, but rather a digital world which has begun to change our perceived reality without us understanding exactly to what extent.
Cataract Juggernaut follows Tim Berresheim’s recent highly successful and acclaimed solo exhibition (Auge und Welt, 2014, at the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen in Düsseldorf. In October 2015, the artist will open a solo show at the Ludwig Forum in Aachen.
