“An Activity so Pure”

September 12 – October 11, 2009
@ RENTAL, NEW YORK, NY
RECEPTION: Saturday, September 12, 7-9PM

RENTAL is proud to announce its first solo exhibition of new works by artist Matthew Chambers entitled An Activity so Pure. The opening reception will be held on Saturday September 12 from 7 to 9pm.
An Activity so Pure is comprised of 22 4’ x 8’ paintings demonstrative of Chambers’ vigorous studio practice. In An Activity so Pure, the artist presents three distinct bodies of work including traditional figurations in a variety of artistic styles, stripped paintings comprised of failed paintings cut into strips and transformed into abstractions and color studies, and silver textured monochrome paintings created without color concerns.
Matthew Chambers (b. 1982) has exhibited in solo exhibitions with Blanket Gallery, Vancouver, Broadway 1602 in New York and Angstrom Gallery in Los Angeles among others. Chambers founded the Los Angeles-based project space TRUDI, and produced exhibitions with a number of successful emerging artists. Chambers received his BFA from the University of Miami in 2004, and attended Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles for his MFA (incomplete).
