FELIX KULTAU
Idyllwild
11 - 23 March 2018
Curated by Nina Mielcarczyk
„Growing up on the border to the largest national park in California, with Air Berlin to Europe, BA at Goldsmith, MA at Städel, happiness found in Belleville, happiness lost in Moabit, then back to Idyllwild – smoking the rocks.“ (Leif Randt)
Starting point for Felix Kultau’s works are used metal locker doors – marked, glued, and scratched – derived from various origins. Kultau responds to the exterior of these lockers and expands it to the aesthetic conjectures of a supposed behind. His visual formations function as an interconnection of the signs of exclusive milieus and the traces of private narratives. A structural erosion and recovery of subcultures or the attractive unknown.
