With its forthcoming exhibition, MEN OH MEN, the Rüdiger Schöttle Gallery affords visitors a unique insight into the work of the Corsican New York artist Agathe Snow.
Her sculptures and collages exemplify the way she creates her worlds – worlds that are at once pervaded with an apocalyptic mood of doom and decay and with an earnest, optimistic belief in a changing society. The exhibition starts out from an experimental investigation into how our memories and feelings are influenced by our multimedia world. To this end, MEN OH MEN has as its theme those men that have left their mark on her life so far. Seven hanging sculptures, still-lifes consisting of found, partially transformed objects and materials, symbolize her erstwhile lovers.
For the opening of the exhibition on Thursday, 31st March 2011, the artist herself will be giving a live skype performance from New York between 7.00 and 9.00 p.m.
Agathe Snow was born in Corsica in 1976 and has been living and working in New York since the mid-1980s. She works in many widely differing techniques and materials. She is known not only for her collages, sculptures, installations, videos and texts but also for her performances, such as the guerilla dinner parties Feed the Troops (2003 – 2006) or her dance marathons of the Stamina series, which began in 2005 and reached its climax in 2008 as one of her contributions to the Whitney Biennial. Agathe Snow had her first large European solo exhibition at the Jeu de Paume, Paris, in 2009. Her installation Master Bait Me was exhibited at the New Museum, New York, in 2010. Her first large German solo exhibition, All Access World, is currently taking place at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin until 30th March 2011.
