MARIA BARTUSZOVA
4 April - 31 May 2014

We shall be showing selected works from the estate of Maria Bartuszova (1936-1997). Born in Prague, this artist's repertoire of sensuous yet non-figurative forms embraces a whole diversity of materials, from gypsum, wood and stone to bronze and aluminium. Following several exhibitions in Eastern Europe, Maria Bartuszova's works were first presented to an international audience at documenta 12 in 2007. The Rüdiger Schöttle Gallery has been exhibiting her often extremely fragile works regularly since 2008. Group exhibitions then followed at the Centre Pompidou ("Le promesses du passé") in 2010 and at the Kunstmuseum in Stuttgart ("Fritz Winter, das innere der Natur") in 2013. A comprehensive catalogue raisonné of the artist's works, compiled by the art historian Gabriela Garlatyova in collaboration with members of Maria Bartuszova's family, especially her daughters Anna and Veronika, and including essays by Noemi Smolik, Jan Verwoert, among others, is expected to be published this year.
