VISUM REPERTUM

Stella Art Foundation, Stella Art Gallery and Vienna University of Applied Arts presented the exhibition of young Austrian artists
VISUM et REPERTUM.
This Latin title was used in medicine as a proof that a medical doctor had seen and examined a situation. It gave an establishment in what condition a sick person was. SEEN and FOUND you may translate it. So the gaze always refers to the construction of a „reality“ – not only a medical one. Seeing always includes a creation / production of „reality“. The spectator never is completely passive. In the show in Stella Art Gallery in June there will be presented different kinds of „looking and representing“. It is of course prima vista a question of different media. There will be oil and acrylic paintings by Alexandra Baumgartner and Amina Broggi. Works generated by computer by Julie Monaco. A sound sculpture by Clemens Leuschner and a light sculpture by May Frey. Further an installation by Magda Tothova and a computer – animation by Harald Holba. There will be a wide spectrum of images in different media. But the „how“ of the generation of an image includes always the question „what“ is an image. It will be obvious that the spectator plays an important role in „making“the image and that it is not a purely passive, „given“ object. Artistic processes often reflect their premisses on one hand and invite the spectator to make this movement too. There appears a strange hint that underneath the image lies a creation of time.
