THE JOURNEY What do we call the journey?
- The journey introduces 3 readings, intrinsic to each other:
- The main one: that which accommodates the pictorial act as a journey.
- The representative one: the journey as useful for pictorial representation.
- The emotive one: The sum of the above for the formation of the individual.

Iker Serrano

Sala Rekalde presents an exhibition by Iker Serrano (Pamplona-Iruña, 1982), included in the barriek 2014 programme which puts on show the works of artists who have been awarded Becas de Creación Artística from the Regional Council of Bizkaia.

The work on show bearing the title El Guardián del Bosque (The guardian of the Forest) forms part of a more extensive project called ISOLARIOS, which brings together part of his production from 2010-2014. ISOLARIOS was published in printed format under the imprint Cuadernos de Utopia in April 2014. This project was funded by the Basque Government’s Department of Culture.

ISOLARIOS, and the sub-projects that comprise it, are the aesthetic result of the author’s PhD, Una mirada sobre el Viaje en la plástica, a través del fenómeno de la narrativa pictórica.

El Guardián del Bosque is the consequence of the character or mask with which the character – traveller – painter fuses after going through the experience of the journey to the painting. It is one of the specificities that determine it. If the traveller has lived in different and highly diverse scenarios and biospheres, if the painter has known his experiences and qualities with different animals, and shares this, it is natural to think that to preserve these entities is a rational consequence. In the same way, to present a figure like the Guardian of the Forest is to stress the importance of nature and those who constitute it.
