Poetics/politics and the crisis of modernity in the context of the Basque Country in the seventies

May 14th - September 06th, 2009

Curator: Fernando Golvano

This eminently documentary exhibition records the experiences of renewal of creators from different ambits which, beginning in the 1960s with groups associated with the Basque School and with Encounters in Pamplona, will give rise to the complex artistic and cultural scene of the last years of the Franco dictatorship.
These initiatives hurtle between the avant-garde and the popular, between nationalism and internationalism and, at the same time, converge in a kind of fertile socio-cultural magma that takes expression in a multitude of manifestations which range from the creation of new collectives and manifestos to music festivals, happenings, journals, posters, and more.
The exhibition turns around four axes that draw together action art, the first feminist demonstrations, other forms of cultural and political dissidence that include the journal Euskadi Sioux, Cloc and Txomin Barullo, sound experimentations, electro-acoustic music and experimental poetry.
