Esplosione Esplosione Esplosione
17 November – 22 December 2012

SCHAU ORT gallery is proud to announce the first Swiss solo-exhibition of German artist Lars Breuer (*1974). Breuer’s works are characterized by a conceptual approach to themes and ideas of past art historic eras and literary movements. By isolating some of their typical elements, the artist fills them with pathos. In his paintings and wall-paintings, Breuer processes art historical references from American Minimalism, over Romanticism and Classicism, to Antiquity.

ESPLOSIONE ESPLOSIONE ESPLOSIONE alludes to the Italian Futurists, whose paintings and statements are for Breuer the most radical approach to a utopian character of art and society. For our exhibition, the artist combines a large-format wall-painting indicating the name of Gabriele D'Annunzios automobile „per non dormire“ with paintings and objects inspired by Gerardo Dottori. The Futurists strove to translate their concept of life as rush of simultaneous conditions into art. In contrast, Breuer picks out single elements from their paintings and transforms them into signets of Modernism. The explosive gesture is frozen into a static entity.

Lars Breuer, co-founder of the artist collective KONSORTIUM, has participated in many international solo- and group-exhibitions. An artist monograph will be published end of 2012 by Ludwigforum Aachen, where he completed a large-format wall-painting for the foyer.
