2006 SECA Art Award:
Sarah Cain, Kota Ezawa, Amy Franceschini, Mitzi Pederson, Leslie Shows
January 27, 2007 - April 22, 2007
Celebrating contemporary art in the Bay Area, the 2006 SECA Art Award exhibition presents work by five extraordinary artists — Sarah Cain, Kota Ezawa, Amy Franceschini, Mitzi Pederson, and Leslie Shows — who work with a diverse array of media and subject matter. The biennial award, sponsored by SFMOMA's SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) auxiliary, recognizes local artists of exceptional promise. From Cain's mixed-media abstractions to Ezawa's stylized re-creations of films and photographs, Franceschini's conceptually informed activism, Pederson's ruggedly beautiful sculptures, and Shows's eerie depictions of a world shaped by industry, the exhibition boasts unique aesthetics and remarkable innovation.
