RE_VISION

The Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg looks back with pride at more than forty-year-long program with exhibitions, publications, events, and collecting activities at Schloss Wolfsburg. Round birthdays do not, however, always bring only a happy state of mind. Such occasions sometimes bring a mixture of high spirits and reflectiveness. Since the look back at the past always also opens up the uncertainty concealed in the future. After forty years, “RE_VISION” marks a turning point for the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg. It offers an opportunity for a critical analysis of the past and simultaneously provide a chance to sound out the current possibilities of the museum anew. Therefore, practical and theoretical questions relating to museum work in the current social, artistic, economic, and cultural-political situation will be discussed and addressed. The term “RE_VISION” therefore elucidates the museum’s intention in two respects: it wants to turn less to showing art and instead increasingly to questions of art, to grappling with and examining the rule book of the art system.
