THOMAS RENTMEISTER
Normal Tag
27 October 2012 - 24 February 2013
Thomas Rentmeister’s work involves legendary shapes from consumer culture as well as items from everyday culture and practice in the genesis of his works. The exhibition examines everyday things with the humorous perspective of the artist. In the process, imagination shaped by habit is deeply confused. Since although the objects and materials taken out of context imply an interest in everyday life, striking elements of the everyday are simultaneously shaped to create a surreal appearance and presented in a novel way. Specifically in the public and museum space, his work between pop art and sculpture develops an ambivalent relationship to its surroundings. Thomas Rentmeister (born in Reken in 1964) has been a professor of sculpture at the HBK Braunschweig since 2009.
