Raamproject VI

RAAMPROJECT VI
(Window Project VI)
Project Leader: Susan Callaars
14 - 31 March 2011

Participating artists: Charlotte Tasma (1989, Rotterdam), Marilyn Sonneveld (1990, Rotterdam), Marieke Wesselink (1986, Rotterdam), Sascha Pijnaker (1989, Zwanenburg)

During the build-up of Showroom MAMA's exhibi-tions its windows are used for the Raamproject (Window Projects). Under the guidance of one or two of MAMA's Rookies (our trainee curators/interns), art academy students and other aspiring creatives are given the chance to make a display for Showroom MAMA's windows.

Students studying illustration at Rotterdam's Willem de Kooning Academy will work on Raamproject V and develop a display that creates a bridge between the previous exhibition "The Adventures of The Great Abnerio" and the upcoming exhibition "Sweatbox-ing", which opens on 2nd April 2011. "Sweatboxing" is a group exhibition providing an overview of contem-porary drawing and is inspired by the Disney Stu-dio's "Sweatbox". The exhibition presents images that depict reality and storytelling using obsessive drawing styles.

Using this bridging approach the artists connect the world tour with the comic book. They have created a globe trotting cartoon character called ‘Keesje' and focus on the protagonist's experiences of four differ-ent locations. The trip is without purpose or chronol-ogy, but is linked by texts and shapes in a network of imagery portrayed across the showroom's windows.

The project has been co-organised by MAMA's Education and Talent Development intern Susan Cal-laars (1988, Utrecht), who is also studying for her masters in Modern Art at Utrecht University. In addition to being a participating artist, Charlotte Tasma is also a MAMA Rookie and co-organiser of the project.
