DANIEL GUSTAV CRAMER
Fifteen Works
13 February - 15 March 2014

In his inaugural exhibition at Sies + Höke, Daniel Gustav Cramer shows a new large-scale installation that extends across both gallery spaces.

Fifteen Works continues the artist’s exhibition series whose title is based on the number of works on display and includes a selection of photographs, sculptures, books and text works that allow a glimpse into the very personal and poetic universe of the artist. Comparable to an entanglement of vague memories, all works are joined in a sort of elliptical sequence to form a cohesive visual system. Cramer invites the viewer to enter the narrow openings between the works and go their own way. His objects and images remain at a distance, the resulting distance between the viewer and the image is part of the experience of the work.

The work Letter to Javier forms the beginning of the exhibition. A letter to a friend named Javier in which Cramer describes his inability to hold onto certain thoughts and memories. „I am writing sketching down notes. In a few days I will rewrite most. Over and over“. The letter draws an imaginary line that establishes a connection between sender and receiver and draws the viewer into the exhibition in a poetic way. Even if the individual works appear independent from each other, they act as small parts of a single image. Cramer’s convoluted system of reference and fragments of visual and text-based stories develops into a whole. Thin iron rods form a link between the works and the gallery spaces and therefore connect each element of the exhibition into a visual and conceptual dialogue, like decimals in a text.
