VICTORIA CIVERA
Corazonada
28 November - 29 December 2012

The Gallery Soledad Lorenzo is pleased to present artist Victoria Civera Corazonada’s exhibition that is being held next Wednesday, November 28.
Victoria Civera was born in Port de Sagunt, Valencia (Spain) in 1955 and has lived in New York since 1987.

This is Civera’s sixth exhibition here at Orfila 5, and will be the last event organised by Soledad Lorenzo, who is going to retire as gallery director and after 26 years. Victoria Civera will compose the final stage of her successful career with the strongest affection and respect.

This exhibition will bring together three different blocks of unseen works within the artistic scene of Madrid. The first block, Germinal-New York, is composed of a group of passage paintings that become inscrutable and intimate. The artist produced these works when she was just beginning her “American adventure” during late 80’s and early 90’s; they will allow us to perceive a process, an evolution of her language from the very first start to its development; these tiny mysterious works will show us Civera’s growing silent interest in feminine realms. Besides, all these delicate object-paintings will act as black and white poems and will set the path for the subsequent volumetric works by Civera (through the incorporation of domestic materials into the backgrounds and their later immersion and expansion over three-dimensional space).

“To me, these works are fine pieces of jewellery, and that is why they have been kept carefully stored at our studios in New York as the main part of our collection. They perfectly transmit the spirit of those first days, weeks and even years of our New York adventure”.
Juan Usle. “Victoria Civera-Germinal NY”.
The big left wall of the Gallery turns into something similar to cabinet paintings from the 19th century. Visiting the three rooms of the Gallery, visitors will be invited to contemplate a total of 49 intimate drawings arranged in different series. Those performed with impulsive strokes, offer us several painting techniques and as a diary, they explain everyday details of the artist’s relationship with domestic, family and professional matters.

The brightest room of the Gallery is left for the end. There, the unseen work in large format, Sueños inclinados, will be waiting for the visitors: six longitudinal inclined structures featuring a stainless steel layer and vertical colored stripes attached to its sides. The six boxes are supported by a single wooden structure over which they are alternately placed, in a way where volumes and heights get to be crossed, creating a chromatic and volumetric mixed sequence. The number of volumes (6) symbolizes the number of exhibitions of this artist at the Gallery.
