March 20 - May 1, 2010
opening 19th march 2010 from 7pm
With "My feet is not your restaurant" the gallery Stephanie Bender presents the second solo exhibition in Munich of the Danish artist Daniel Milan (*1978).
Daniel Milan shows his recent works inspired by a one year stay in Uganda.
During the last years Daniel Milan intensely dealt with the medium of the drawing. Affected by stays at different places like Bavaria, the Balkans or Japan he developed drawing series which outline a development of the person in the different cultural areas.
Africa as a starting point for the exhibition "My feet is not your restaurant" shows important developments in the drawings - in motives, style and even numbers of drawings.
The works throw a glance at the African pop culture, with motives from magazines and other everyday media. The series has a humoristic, dark and abstract expression and the drawings various a lot within the quality of each drawing. Beside the paper works found objects like arrows or traps will be installed and complement the nearly anthropological study of Daniel Milan.
Daniel Milan studied at the Royal Danish academy and at the academy of fine arts Munich. His works were already shown in museums and are represented in the collection of the Nordjyllands art museum for contemporary art.
The artist works in various media – drawings, painting or sculpture. As a co-editor of the Copenhagen underground publishing company SMITTEKILDE he already published various artist's books.
