"Cardboarding"

opening friday 30. january 2009 from 7 pm
runs till 28 march 2009

Ulrich Hakel's oeuvre expands, outgoing from the classical hand drawing, on conceptual and formal repertoire in the form of painting, sculpture and installation. Stimulated by everyday subjects like the universal media worlds and the popular culture, his works not only reflects the general spirit of the present. Rather his diversity of works show that Hakel consciously creates an individual picture world, as a result of the surrounded mass production.

The playful-experimental aspect which is also expressed in the exhibition title takes a central role in Hakels work. Thematically his recent cardboards move between high-, trivial culture, past and present which allows the artist to summarise a subjectively fragmented cultural retrospective. In the gallery Stephanie Bender the works meet under titles like „School of Athens“, "BAM", "Zuni", "crow" and "Snoopy".

Ulrich Hakel (born 1973) studied at the academy of fine arts Munich with Prof. Olaf Metzel. During the last years his works were to be seen in numerous group exhibitions and single exhibitions.
Hakel lives and works in Berlin
