TAPE FLORENCE
20 April - 20 May, 2011

Realised on the occasion of Florence’s Notte Bianca, Tape Florence (30 April–20 May 2011) is an installation for the Palazzo Strozzi courtyard created by the Numen / For Use collective and curated by the Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina.

The work is composed of suspended shapes made of myriad layers of adhesive tape. Overlapping sculpture, design and performance, the installation offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate it both visually from the outside and physically from the inside. Calling into question the harmonies of the courtyard’s Renaissance architecture, the sculpture is reminiscent of an organic life form, a cocoon that is symbol of metamorphosis and natural or existential regeneration.
The Numen / For Use collective’s members are Sven Jonke, Christoph Katzler and Nikola Radeljkovic who work in Vienna and Zagreb. Their work takes its cue from the tradition of modern design, updated to reflect the principles of new technical and technological resources.

Installation visible during the opening hours of Palazzo Strozzi (everyday 9.00-20.00, Thursday until 23.00); access to the inside of the installation is only possible the following days: Saturday 30 April, 20.00-23.00 / Thursdays, 18.00-23.00
