Didier Courbot

27 Oct - 03 Dec 2011

Adirondack Line, 56 x 75 cm, colour photograph, 2011
In his latest solo exhibition at the gallery, Courbot presents a new body of work that continues several previously explored themes. Following his needs series (1999 - ongoing), which documented the artist’s actions and repairs in and around public spaces, Courbot continues to generate meaning in the everyday with his subtle and thoughtful gestures. Here, discarded or disregarded material is renewed in various ways, from intimate encounters with found objects to emblazoned messages appropriated from the street. The lifespans of Courbot’s selected subjects are extended in his playful treatments, and thus transform the aleatoric into examples of generosity.
