Oliver Husain: Cushy Number

Susan Hobbs is pleased to present Oliver Husain’s exhibition Cushy Number, his first at the gallery. Using a range of cinematic tropes, Husain’s films, installations and performances are exquisite and playful pursuits in the realm of expanded cinema. His encoded narratives, visual cues and site-specific interventions coalesce here to charm the viewer into a reversal of subject and object. In the main gallery, Husain’s black and white film sets up a conversation between the audience and the film’s subject through an epistolary script. On the second floor, a display of his signature hand-painted silk scarves and related objects provides a multi-hued contrast that literally ties the two floors together.
