MAY HANDS
Meloni Meloni
19 January - 13 February 2015

T293 Napoli is pleased to present Meloni Meloni, the exhibition of works on textile realised by British artist May Hands in collaboration with LRRH_art project based in Cologne and Berlin.

Meloni Meloni is an edition of 11 textile art works, each individual and uniquely crafted. The base material is silk, digitally printed with artists’ works on one side and manually screen printed elements on the other side. Through sophisticated handicrafts, the works are enriched with embroidery and stitchings, with applications and fillings of textile and non-textile everyday materials.

In this series, elements of our daily visual environment are alienated and rearranged to form an alternative emotional experience for an upgraded aesthetic and tactile reality. The employed materials like organza, tassels, nets and plastic beads are withdrawn from the original context of fruit and vegetable labeling and packaging and, thus help us reflect our daily experience of consumption.

The works in the show are re-formulated representations of everyday materials and found objects in a textile context. The exploration and celebration of materials combined with the inherent qualities of textile continue as the pieces easily interact with our daily living- being framed as a picture, installed in space or worn as sculpture.

The LRRH_ art editions by represent contemporary art on textile. Realized in cooperation with international artists, the textile editions address visual opportunities that would otherwise remain inaccessible through traditional art media.
