The simple call of the word 'outside', if you put aside George Michael's sounds or just let it not take control of your mind, seems to throw each of us into some very immediate respond. One will reminisced on a particular moment the word came out as a wild, almost lost voice, of a school teacher, while another will dread or celebrate the moment a door, be it real or metaphorical, opened and allowed an escape or just simply a better understanding of both the inside and the outside.

The walls we have put upon and built around us to protect ourselves from the coldness and wilderness of the 'outside' are many times, of course, a haven securing us from a fear which is embedded in our, as if, fragile bodies. We have grown accustomed to living with a divider between 'out and 'in', for it helps us clarify who we are and what belongs to us and what does not (or what may still be waiting for us to conquer, even if it is just a constructed illusion).

We play games 'outside' which we do not play 'inside' and vice versa. We act, talk, behave in a different way when we go 'outside', at least, in the western world (not counting, of course, the homeless people, which by living outdoors are reinforcing our grasp for our secured 'indoors' shelters). The exhibition title 'outside', taking place in the midst of a snowy Berlin winter, presents, examines and comments on the notion of 'outside' while you are warmly invited behind the doors of a closed and protected exhibition space.
