Futo AKIYOSHI Born in Osaka in 1977. Graduated from Nagoya University of Arts in 2001 and completed the Post Graduate and Research Program in Art in 2003. One of the participating members of Aichi prefectureユs artist-operated gallery space "art space dot" from the year 2000 through to 2002. Solo exhibitions at Gallery HAM in Nagoya in 2003 and 2005. Currently lives and works in Osaka.

From September through to October, TARO NASU gallery presents Futo Akiyoshiユs first solo exhibition ever held in Tokyo.
"I pray 'Give me something! Let something happen!' when I paint", Futo Akiyoshi says of his method of creating, and though he is not a prolific artist, he has been painting since his university days.
"I want to project different impressions each and every time. When I start working on a new painting, I challenge myself to create something totally different from what I made in the past, and also something that no one has ever done before."
A work made solely by applying gold paint, a three-dimensional piece created by layering paint like a mountain; this is an example of the work of Akiyoshi that has been astounding viewers while at the same time showing his serious pursuit of authenticity in art.
For this exhibition, his first solo show in Tokyo, Akiyoshi has chosen highly conventional materials ミ oil on canvas ミ and the uniquely titled exhibition reveals his latest series of paintings with the human leg as the motif. This motif is painted on equally-sized canvases, yet no two are painted with the same approach, and in this latest series Akiyoshi boldly confronts the challenge he has set himself and succeeds in illustrating the enthralling fusion of the aesthetics of the new generation and the age-old legitimacy of painting.
Futo Akiyoshi occupies a unique space in the art world and one can sense the quality of the stately manner of an influential artist that is underlined with a fragile quality characteristic of young artists. We hope that you will see what we see in the world of Akiyoshi.
