I have been invited to show at T&S to express just how I feel or maybe just how it feels to be a mirror within this old fashioned world of painting. Maybe they hired me as a translating device, an app bound to be updated, a romantic bad painter trying to make sense of it all seen lovelier.
There are many possibilities for a title of this show...Kathryn Bigelow
The movie house in Connecticut where I’ve lately been living proudly showed the director's oscar award winning film Hurt Locker. It must have been rumored controversial because it was quietly replaced three days later by a comedy starring Ben Stiller.
Some rules and regulations - recognizable and/or otherwise not:
When in the Burbs shopping:
do not get too close to fellow shoppers unless you want to get laid or arrested,
be polite - apologize if you reach for a tomato and come within a 3 to 4 feet radius of the shopper's personal space.
on the other hand
shopping carts are prone to rub and/or collide into yours if you do not pay attention enough
tight golden velour sweatpants around a post pregnancy buttocks may need particular attention
especially when TWEET is written around the rim of it.
suburb tip - walmarts are anonymous, stop&shops, stay discreet,
these are not tweens i'm talking about but middle-aged women in teenage bodies.
A friend told me that he saw a bumper sticker today that read, ‘Tea parties are for little girls and their imaginary friends.” What does this have to do with painting? What does it have to do with funny? What does Facebook have to do with anything? Why does my textedit automatically correct lower case “f” to a capital “F” in Facebook? An exaggeration of this is what you might expect from this show because it's all around me, and everywhere I look. I feel it a duty to roll with the punches. The internet and its puerile behavior are here to stay. I feel it my to job try and mirror a bit of it
Imagine a recruiting officer interviewing a potential soldier :
-Are you gay boy?
-Sir, you're not supposed to ask me that.
-Well if i did, how would you reply?
-Sir, i'm not allowed to tell
very enlightening
So getting back to the unofficial title of my show...Kathryn Bigelow.
The real solution to the problems of all the above.
About the artist
David Chieppo recently moved back to the US after over 10 years living and working in Switzerland, where is has exhibited extensively. He has mounted solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Basel, , Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Kunstmuseum Thun, and the Kunsthaus Glarus, all throughout Switzerland. His work has been included in group exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Zürich, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Fribourg, and the Kunsthalle Bern. The artist has seen two publications dedicated to his artwork. This is Chieppo’s second solo exhibition at Taxter & Spengemann, he is also represented by Galerie Brigitte Weiss in Zurich.
