TENT ACADEMY AWARDS 2011,
THE BENELUX EDITION

On Friday July 15, TENT screened the films that were nominated for the TENT Academy Awards 2011, in Cinerama, Rotterdam. This evening, the jury announced the 2011 winners, and members of the audience voted for their favourite. This year for the first time, students from Belgium and Luxembourg also got the chance to win an award: the TENT Academy Award For Best Foreign Film.
Auke de Vries (AKV St. Joost, Breda) won the TENT Academy Award 2011. Quinten Leon (Sint Lukas, Brussels) won the TENT Academy Award For Best Foreign Film. Sarah Bijlsma (ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Arnhem) won this year's Public Choice Award
The nominations for the TENT Academy Awards were selected by a group of authorative experts: Yasmina Aboutaleb, journalist, wrote for CJP magazine and NRC Handelsblad a.o.; Merel Bem, art critic De Volkskrant; Joost Daamen, programmer IDFA, Paradocs a.o.; Stephane Kaas, video editor Hard//Hoofd, online magazine for art and journalism, independent director; Hicham Khalidi, director TAG; platform for modern audiovisual art in The Hague; Noor Mertens, editor Tubelight, guest curator NEST; Sandra Smets, freelance art critic for NRC Handelsblad a.o.; Angelique Spaninks, director MU exhibition space for contemporary art and visual culture, Eindhoven; Joost de Vries, art editor De Groene Amsterdammer and writer; Kerstin Winking, assistant curator Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam.
An international jury selected the winners:
Foreman Bart Rutten, curator of visual art Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; Olof van Winden, new director of the Netherlands Media Art Institute; Kevin Muhlen, director of Casino Luxembourg Forum d’Art Contemporain, and Carolyn van Liefland, established film distributor and head of programming at Wolff Cinema.
