JULIE VILLARD & SIMON BROSSARD
Motorcycle Engine
29 June – 28 July 2018
Future Gallery is proud to present “Motorcycle Engine”, the first solo exhibition by French artist duo Julie Villard & Simon Brossard at the gallery.
“Motorcycle Engine” consists of a new body of sculptures and installations. Each work is a conglomeration of pre-existing industrial objects as well as a range of hybrid forms. Combined and merged they become a homogeneous infected mass. Fabricated out of resin, silicone, metal and fabric with opaque and monochrome surfaces they generate a curious haptic quality through the blending of soft and rigid materials.
Entering the first exhibition room the floor piece “carpet” made out of silicon is put in context with the sculpture “I crush for fun” which has an industrial appearance of recognizable parts. This creates a connection of the familiar and the uncanny.
The second room shows three different wall installations which reveal the diversity and the manifoldness of Villard & Brossard’s artistic methods. Elements from sex and gothic culture spawn into a sensual, biomechanical, science fictional and somehow morbid atmosphere. This particular mix of designs results in the distinct mood created in the exhibition.
Julie Villard (*1992) & Simon Brossard (*1994) live and work in Paris. Julie Villard studies at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy and Simon Brossard studies at Beaux Arts de Paris.
Selected exhibitions include: Menu, Exo Exo, Paris (2018); Le Manutention – L’institut d’esthétique #1-4, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2017); Mothership, Exo Exo, Paris (2017); Klub Fiesta, Plato Ostrava, Ostrava (2017)
