With his recent sculpture, 'Song', Peter Rogiers refers to his first public sculpture 'Green Figure' (1993-1995).
While 'Green Figure' intrigues with its contradictions, molded together into one autonomous sculpture, it also breathes new contradictions into the sculpture that makes the image elusive.
The expressionistic design is in contrast to the closed position, as if the sculpture is beyond the gaze of the viewer. Or even introverted. The slight tilt of the base gives a feeling of a captured 'moment in time', a movement, a dance, contradictory to the solid material of the sculpture (bronze and steel).
The work exudes a sculptural force that transcends every anecdote.
Met zijn recentste sculptuur, Song, refereert Peter Rogiers naar zijn allereerste publieke sculptuur, ‘Green Figure’ (1993-1995).
Zoals Green Figure intrigeert door zijn contradicties, samen gegoten in één autonoom beeldhouwwerk, zo ook ademt het nieuwe beeldhouwwerk tegenstellingen uit, die het beeld ongrijpbaar maken.
De expressionistische opzet staat haaks op de gesloten houding, alsof de sculptuur zich onttrekt aan de blik van de toeschouwer, in zichzelf gekeerd is.
Het lichte overhellen van de sokkel geeft een gevoel van ‘moment in de tijd’, beweging, dans, contradictorisch aan het solide materiaal van de sculptuur (brons en staal).
Het werk straalt een plastische kracht uit die elke anekdote overstijgt.
