CHISATO YAMANO
World Blend
19 November - 1 December 2014

In Chisato Yamano’s ceramic works is a boundless imaginative power expands from fragments of memory and images, and stories that unfurl like word games. Humps of a camel turn into a kotatsu, and on top of it people start to play othello. Such numerous humorous stories are formed into different shapes through the movement of Yamano’s fingers, as if the people and animals mingle and live with each other delightfully in harmony. This exhibition is entitled “World Blend”. The artist says, “To think about what to mix and how to mix it within my art has something in common with making a flavor of blend coffee, which requires thinking about the characteristics kept in each variety of coffee bean originating from all over the world.”

Chisato Yamano was born in 1977 in Osaka, Japan. She received an M.F.A. from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2005. She currently lives and works on an island located in the Seto Inland Sea and continues to hold solo exhibitions at various places. Apart from solo pieces, she also presents works for everyday general use under the unit name “suna fujita” working with Shohei Fujita.
