LEE YOUNGBIN
22 May - 3 June 2013

Lee Youngbin was born in 1980 in Seoul, Korea. She graduated from Sungshin Women»t;s University in 2004, and received an M.F.A. from the same university in 2009. Currently she lives and works in Seoul. Using traditional Korean materials at all times, she creates pure and delicate imagery with watercolor and Korean ink on paper. The works in this exhibition are a series based on public bathhouses, where she uses delicate lines to draw tiles and figures. Some works focus on a large space, while the others focus on figures which are depicted as small, natural, and equal in existence away from socially defined roles. Her works also express the concept of “Ying” (shadows, darkness, negativity) and the thought of finding hope and beauty in the negativity, yet at the same time, the fragility, or the sense of loneliness of her work is closely connected to strength. Please enjoy Lee's unique world view.
