One of the work themes of Hirose is <travel>. Travel is not necessarily an escape from daily life, but it is an act of finding new daily life from travel according to the movement is shown. He is enchanted by the one with mobility and the one that always moves. The hint is concealed in the nothing one in daily life. <BLUE BOX> is a sculpture work with which various elements are blocked as if his desire became one crystal. A transparent acrylic box is a sky house and various works, sky photography work, work attaches original collage, and drawing, are supplied to this blue box of four step class that entered the inside. The work titled <Sky Chronicle> is a box which there were Lapis lazuli powder that it had used when renaissance painter, Giotto, drew the sky and also some Hirose's selected postcards. The buyer ,who bought this work ,resigters in the project called <to make travel to the sky>, and the new work of sky slide mailed directly by Hirose is received four times a year by years of three thereafter and then finally it is put in the box. This work is completed by an act of transiting between the artist and the work owner.
This work is a part of the series of <Casa>. In 2003, Hirose showed <Salt House 1994> at nicolafornello in Torino, Italy. There was tightly a salt inside the pure-white house that had been built in the block of the cube sugar. In the same year of 2003, after he exhibited in Torino, the exhibition of <No Place like a home> traveled to Parma. The work titled of <House of Beeswax>, Hirose made a wooden box where a tall leg attached and the viewer could going up in the ladder and peeping into the window to see in the room filled with smell which is made with the beeswax. Hirose was reflected himself in the mobility of the bee.
In 2004, he showed the work called <House of Napoli> at UmbertoDi Marino Arte Contemporary in Napoli. It is like a Neapolitan coffee maker, the tearoom reversed in the gallery space has floated in the air and the coffee bean is spread over the ceiling(floor). The viewers could enter to the inside of tearoom. A cafe culture and a local culture can be seen as communications that exceed the boundary.
Appealing not only the sight but also sense of touch. Hirose attempts to transit of the viewers and the work. We feel the floated time and the space between the viewers, the artist, and the work. Please take this opportunity to see Satoshi Hirose's works at Tomio Koyama Gallery. It is putting yourself in daily life but feeling like finding a travel.
