Refuge-Five Cities' Portfolios
19 June - 6 July 2011

Rotterdam-based photographer, Bas Princen produced a photographic survey of critical sites of urban change in five cities: Istanbul, Beirut, Amman, Cairo, and Dubai. Internationally known ...for his subtle yet accurate photographs of urban conditions all around the world, Princen constructs his images meticulously as a way of urban/ architectural research , and reaches an image that is at once poetic and highly informative. With the help of local guidance from institutional partners in the region Princen constructs intimate portraits of the five cities. The photographic exhibition took part of the Rotterdam Biennale, and then proceeds to tour across the region as a separate exhibition.

Bas Princen (1975) is an architect and photographer of public spaces based in Rotterdam.
