BEATRIZ SANTIAGO MUÑOZ
9 September - 12 October 2013
Transmission is excited to be hosting Beatriz Santiago Muñoz for a one-month residency, where she will be working on a project commissioned for Glasgow International in April 2014. The residency offers time and space to find common ground with artists in Glasgow and establish dialogue on ideas and working methods that will inform the work, while still in process.
TUESDAY 17th SEPTEMBER
Screening of recent works, talk, conversation
La Cueva Negra / The Black Cave (2012) Farmacopea (2013)
Esto es un mensaje explosivo / This Is An Explosive Message (2010)
Prisoner's Cinema (2013)
------------
WED 9 OCTOBER 7PM
Errant Cinema / Curated screening programme
"...one who is errant (who is no longer traveler, discoverer or conqueror) strives to know the totality of the world yet already knows he will never accomplish this---and knows that is precisely where the threatened beauty of the world resides". – Edouard Glissant, Poetics of Relations
A screening of films and videos which arise out of an impulse to errantry, in the literal and figurative sense, and in which the action and process of filming and being in a place is inextricable from the subjectivity of the maker.
UNTIL 11TH OCTOBER
Walk / Anyone is welcome to take Beatriz on a walk, long or short. A chance to make a film without a camera.
The work of Beatriz Santiago Muñoz arises out of long periods of observation and documentation, in which the camera is present as an object with social implications and as an instrument mediating aesthetic thought. Her films and videos focus on specific social structures or events which she transforms into collaborative work, performance and moving image. Beatriz’s current interests have a lot do with the the material and physical trace of abstract political ideas, particularly post-military spaces, and in the relationship of new landscapes to social forms.
