EXHIBITION 2: TORSO
6 September – 8 November 2015

The second exhibition within the exhibition cycle on body, spatial awareness and movement to mark the 25-year anniversary of the Ursula Blickle Foundation is presenting a selection of work from the collection of the Belvedere/21er Haus in Vienna, complemented by individual videos from the Ursula Blickle Video Archive. In terms of content, the emphasis of the selection lies in the artistic engagement with the body as a medium and as a projection surface for social and political conditions, which, since around the mid-20th century has represented a defining moment in art production, whether amongst the representatives of Viennese Actionism, early strategies of feminist art or the creative reflection of gender issues in recent times. And the preoccupation with the human body in sculptural discourse has lost none of its century-old topicality either. The exhibited works, which as a group of disparate yet interconnected parts, recall existing analogies between the body and the collection, convey both these forms of interest in the human subject.

On show are works by artists including Günter Brus, Birgit Jürgenssen, Elke Silvia Krystufek, Peter Kogler, Lili Reynaud-Dewar, Markus Schinwald, Erwin Wurm and Heimo Zobernig.
