SAME MOMENT, TWO DIFFERENT MEMORIES
Esther Tielemans in het oog (the eye)
18 April - 20 September 2015
the sculptural possibilities of painting
In her work Esther Tielemans examines the foundations of painting; the suggestion of a reality, a third dimension on a flat surface. For her the appearance of this reality runs parallel to the world we create.
Tielemans became well known for her colorful paintings of landscape elements, combined with shiny monochrome panels. In recent years her work has become more abstract with the emphasis on the memories of experiences of the landscape, as well as the experience of space. In her work she explores the boundaries of painting. She has developed a work in which the painting becomes the object, and the object, the painting, especially for Het Oog. The two elements change positions, revealing the sculptural possibilities of painting.
In 2014 Esther Tielemans was awarded the Wolvencamp prize, a national prize for painting awarded every two years.
